Women’s World Cup: ‘we are ready to put up battle’ – Alozie sends strong message to Wiegman’s Lionesses ahead of R16 clash

The Super Falcons of Nigeria scaled through Group B unbeaten with five points at the 2023 Women’s World Cup

Right-back Michelle Alozie says the Super Falcons are ready to give all their best against European champions, England, in their Round of 16 clash at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports

The two football heavyweights have been pittied together for a mouthwatering showdown in Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, with a place in the last-eight at stake.

Sarina Wiegman’s European champions are the overwhelming favourites going into the contest after they won all their three group stage matches.

Nigeria, on the other hand, could only picked a second place position behind co-hosts Australia in Group B after they collected five points from their three group stage matches.

England have only been beaten once in their last 35 matches under head coach Sarina Wiegman, making this contest a daunting task for the nine-time African champions.

Alozie, who has been a revelation at the tournament, said the Falcons have faced tough opposition in the competition already and this will help them on how to approach their game against England on Monday.

Yeah I always have faith with us, and I think we have already played some top teams before we came to the World Cup, we got few results and that only grew as we came into the group stage, and we are just focusing on taking each game as it comes, Alozie told NFFTV

England are one of the just three teams with maximum points from the group-stage, they’ve conceded only one goal  and now one of the favourites to win the tournament after an impressive 6-1 win over China in their last match helped them finish top of Group D.

It is going to be a hard game and we have had a hard game against Canada, so we expect nothing less, it’s obviously a knockout round, and they will be ready to face us, and we are ready to put up a battle. And We are expecting a battle from them and we will give them everything we have.

The winner of the first knockout round tie will progress to the quarterfinal to face the winner from Colombia versus Jamaica tie.
