“We don’t need him” – Super Eagles star transfer-listed days after signing permanent deal

The Nigeria international enjoyed a fantastic spell in the Süper Lig last term, but it appears there is friction between the winger and his employers

Adana Demirspor President Murat Sancak has dropped a bombshell, revealing that the club is looking to part ways with Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru, Soccernet.ng reports.

This revelation comes just days after the winger signed a permanent deal with the club following an impressive loan spell from Olympiakos last season.

During his time on loan, Onyekuru displayed remarkable form in the Süper Lig, scoring eight goals and providing three crucial assists in 28 league games.

His outstanding contributions played a key role in Adana Demirspor’s historic fourth-place finish, securing their debut qualification for the Europa Conference League.

Thrilled by his performance, the club acted quickly and converted his loan to a permanent move on July 1, paying Olympiakos €3.5 million for the winger’s services.

However, the excitement soon turned into perplexity as Onyekuru’s name was surprisingly missing from Adana Demirspor’s European roster for the Europa Conference League qualifiers against Cluj, signaling the first signs of tension between the player and the club.

Club President Murat Sancak has now confirmed the rumoured friction, stating that Onyekuru is indeed on the way out.

“Onyekuru will most likely not be with us,” Sancak remarked, as reported by HaberKolig.

“A final offer will come today; we will evaluate it accordingly. He will most likely go. In fact, we don’t need him right now.”

Backing up his statement, Sancak highlighted the depth in their squad with talents like David Akintola, Yusuf Sari, Nani, and Yusuf Erdogan, claiming they are not lacking in quality players.

However, he left the door slightly ajar for new possibilities, saying, “If we find a good player, we have a name in mind; we will consider him if he fits our terms.”

Onyekuru’s football journey has taken him through Belgium, France, Greece, and Turkey, where he enjoyed title success with Galatasaray.

His talent and experience in various leagues make him an attractive prospect for potential suitors as he seeks a fresh start away from Adana Demirspor.
