In a tightly contested Women’s Cup final at the Wanda Alcalá de Henares Sports Centre, Rasheedat Ajibade played a crucial role in helping Atletico Madrid beat AC Milan Feminine to emerge victorious with a narrow 1-0 scoreline in the Women’s Cup final, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigerian sensation Rasheedat Ajibade played a pivotal role, providing the crucial assist to Santos in added time, who clinched the title for Atletico Madrid.
Fresh from her standout performance with Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Ajibade earned her place in Atletico’s starting lineup.
However, Ajibade and her teammates encountered resilient opposition from AC Milan, who delivered an impressive performance, holding their own against the former Spanish champions.
Throughout the match, Milan had their chances to break the deadlock, notably in the 21st minute of the second half when Marinelli’s right-footed attempt threatened Atletico’s goal.
Early in the second half, Super Falcons star Ajibade came close to opening the scoring, but Milan’s goalkeeper, Guagni, expertly saved her well-placed shot.
As the match climaxed, Atlético Madrid made a late push in the 89th minute. Sheila had an opportunity but squandered it.
However, it was Santos who ultimately sealed the victory in the 92nd minute. Santos and Ajibade combined effectively, with Santos delivering a precise left-footed strike that secured the Women’s Cup for Atletico Madrid.
After this preseason tournament win, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan will again face off at the upcoming Amos Cup, a French tournament scheduled to commence on Monday, August 28th, in Toulouse.
In the semi-final, Milan will once again cross paths with Atlético Madrid, while Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are set to compete on the opposite side of the bracket.
