The two Nigerian internationals had a day to forget on the second gameweek of the league campaign
Ademola Lookman and Tyronne Ebuehi were on the worse ends of disappointing defeats for Atalanta and Empoli on matchday two of the 2023/24 Serie A season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman and Atalanta succumbed to a humbling 2-1 loss at newly-promoted Frosinone.
The Super Eagles winger started the encounter but was substituted at halftime, with Atalanta trailing by two goals.
Duvan Zapata reduced the deficit for the visitors shortly after the restart. Still, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men could not find the equaliser as they fell to their first defeat of the campaign.
Atalanta and Lookman will look to bounce back to winning ways when they host Monza on September 2nd.
It would be recalled that Lookman, in his first Serie A season, was Atalanta’s top goalscorer last term with 13 goals. The former Leicester City forward also added six assists.
Over at the U-Power Stadium, Ebuehi saw every minute of action but could not help Empoli avoid a 2-0 away loss to Monza.
A brace from Andrea Colpani – one on either side of the halftime break – was all Monza needed to condemn Empoli to their second consecutive defeat.
It does not get any easier for Empoli as their next game is against Juventus on September 3. They currently sit at the bottom of the league table.
