Report: Osimhen could miss Napoli’s penultimate pre-season game

The Serie A is set to begin in two weeks, and the Italian kings do not want to take any chances on Osimhen

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could miss Napoli’s penultimate pre-season game against Augsburg on Sunday as he is yet to fully recover from a muscle strain.

Soccernet reports that the prolific 28-year-old Nigeria striker missed Napoli’s last friendly match against Girona because of a muscle strain. Napoli could have patched him up to play the game, but they did not because it was an inconsequential fixture.

Eventually, they drew the game 1-1 as Osimhen watched from the sidelines. Since then, he has not trained fully with the team.

According to Napoli’s training reports for Friday, the 24-year-old striker did personalized training at the gym in Castel di Sangro.

Because of this, it is unlikely that he will feature against Augsburg on Sunday. Moreover, Napoli have no reason to rush him as it is just a friendly fixture.

Nonetheless, they would hope that Osimhen returns just in time for their Serie A opener against newly-promoted Frosinone on August 19.

The Super Eagles striker has been linked with a move away from Naples this summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea touted as possible destinations.

However, that may not happen this summer as he is in the process of extending his contract at the club.
