The Stevenage-born forward had a good campaign with Burnley last season, and he has completed a transfer to a bigger side
Super Eagles-eligible forward Nathan Tella has completed a transfer to German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen from Southampton, Soccernet.ng reports.
Tella spent last season on loan at Burnley and turned heads with his eye-catching displays. The 24-year-old right-winger registered an impressive 17 goals and five assists for the Clarets in the run-up to their English Championship triumph.
However, the Stevenage-born forward returned to his parent club this summer following the completion of his loan deal.
Tella’s future has been in the balance since then, as he was linked with a return to Burnley. However, the Clarets were unwilling to match Southampton’s demands.
Eventually, German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen entered the deal and were willing to match Southampton’s £20million-valuation of the 24-year-old.
Tella had his medicals on Saturday, and Die Werkself announced that the Nigerian winger joined them in a five-year deal.
He becomes the second Nigeria in Xabi Alonso’s squad, alongside top marksman Victor Boniface.
Tella was born in England to Nigerian parents, but he identifies as an English player. Nonetheless, he can play for the Super Eagles because he has not played for the Three Lions.
