Kanu launches new foundation to sponsor girl child to USA

Uchenna Kanu was among Randy Waldrum’s Falcons that did Nigeria proud at the 2023 Women’s World Cup before they exited in the Round of 16

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has launched a new foundation and website as her new personal project, Soccernet.ng reports

The foundation is basically about giving back to the community by helping a girl child maximize her potential to chase her dreams, while the website will be used for sponsoring the girls on scholarships to the United States of America.

She will also be using the platform to dish out content from her experience at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Kanu revealed the details of the foundation and website with a post and accompanying video on her Instagram handle.

Growing up my opportunities were limited because of the environment I was born into. Social norms and other cultural factors made it almost impossible to not give up dreams. Many believed that a girl should not kick a football.

LONG STORY SHORT I didn’t give up regardless of the heat and pressure from people around me. I kept believing in myself and my talent, praying that one day I would not only change the narrative but rewrite my story.

Today I’m proud of myself and all my accomplishments. Most importantly, grateful that humbled to be an inspiration and role model to all the young girls in my hometown who look up to me in pursuit of my dreams, She wrote

The 26-year-old appeared in all Super Falcons matches in the ongoing Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, scoring a goal in their 3-2 victory over Australia in their second group game.

Nigeria was knocked out of the tournament by England 4-2 on penalties in the Round of 16 after the game ended goalless at the end of 120 minutes.
