Waldrum’s troops have been unbeaten so far in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament
The head coach of the Nigerian women’s national team, Randy Waldrum, has revealed his contact with some US-based Nigerian players who want to connect with their home country, Soccernet.ng reports.
The American tactician is not only basking in the success of the Super Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but also looking towards the future with optimism.
The Super Falcons’ impressive performance at the World Cup has caught the attention of young players across the diaspora, sparking a surge of interest in joining the national team.
Waldrum revealed that he no longer needs to identify potential Nigerian players actively, but instead, they are now approaching him to don the jersey of the nine-time WAFCON Champions.
However, the 66-year-old manager has had ups and downs while guiding the Super Falcons, including a beef with the Nigeria Football Federation over unpaid months’ salary.
Despite facing challenges and disagreements with the Nigerian football body, Waldrum has set his sights on the Olympics as the next target for the team.
“I’ve had some under-17 coaches reach out about players they have, a couple of really good under-20 players that are playing in the U.S. that now want to be connected in Nigeria
“We also have those connections in England. There are a few players there that I’m already looking at to bring to the Olympics and so forth. I think it’s a huge plus.” Waldrum revealed.
With a fresh wave of talent and renewed tenacity, the Nigerian squad is poised to make even more outstanding progress over the long and near terms.
Prior to future plans, the Nigerian Super Falcons have been scheduled to face off against the English Women’s team in the Round of 16 on August 7th.
