‘I’ve been in that movie’ – Miller sends words of advice to Dessers after difficult start at Ibrox Stadium

Cyriel Dessers joined Rangers from Cremonese this summer after registering 7 goals and 3 assists in 29 games for the club last campaign

Former Scotland International Kenny Miller has advised Cyriel Dessers on how to turn the corner after a difficult start to his career at the Ibrox Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old joined the 55-time Scottish champions this summer with expectations after two good previous years with Feyernood and Cremonese.

But the Nigeria International has failed to hit the ground running at the Ibrox Stadium, going blank in three of his first five appearances for the club.

Despite that, it’s just a handful of games into his Ibrox career, and already Dessers is getting criticism from pundits and Rangers’ fans who were heard booing him in the club’s 4-0 win over Livingston in the Premiership last week.

Kenny Miller, who was one of the few players that represented Rangers and their fiercest rivals Celtic, has advised the Nigerian to keep his head cool and also to continue working hard to meet the expectations of the fans.

I genuinely feel for Dessers. I know how unforgiving a place Ibrox can be and when things are against you, it’s tough. He’s giving the ball away cheaply and missed a couple of chances you’d expect to take. He will feel like everything is going against him – I’ve been in that movie. But remember he only started three games for Rangers, Miller wrote in his column for Daily Record

When I look at Dessers in particular, he got stick against Livi for not chasing down a lost cause. After that, every time he touched the ball there was an air of negativity around him. You could feel it. All eyes were on him.

As I say, I’ve been there. Luckily I’ve always had a lot of self-belief and a strong mentality that convinced me it would come good, the former Scotland captain said in his column

Dessers will aim to get his third goal for the club when they host PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the Champions League play-offs on Tuesday night.

His first goal came in the second leg of their champions league third round away at Servette before he scored the equalizer in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Morton in the league cup.
