The Nigeria international would have loved his early days in Scotland to be filled with more goals
Brazil forward Danilo Pereira da Silva has applauded Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers as a great striker who will deliver the goods for Glasgow Rangers when he finds his range soon, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dessers has managed just one goal for Rangers since completing his multi-million euro move from Serie A side Cremonese earlier in the summer.
The Super Eagles attacker opened his goalscoring account for the Gers in the 2-1 win over Swiss side Servette in a Champions League qualifier last week.
But the former Genk ace has fired blanks in games against Kilmarnock and Livingstone. Rangers lost the match against Killies but bashed the Livis by four goals, with Danilo among the scorers.
The critics have started rolling out the drums with Dessers struggling to hit the net in two league games.
One of them, Scottish Daily Mail reporter Stephen McGowan, has already called Rangers manager Michael Beale to axe Dessers from the starting eleven.
But Danilo has thrown his support behind his strike partner, insisting that Dessers needs time to adapt to new environments and systems.
“It’s early in the day and we’re still getting to know each other,” Danilo said to the Glasgow Live.
“We still have to properly click together. But we’re getting there and day by day we’re putting in the work to get better and really understand each other’s movements. He’s a great striker and I’m really glad that we can play together and help each other.
“We make a lot of movements and we can help our midfielders too with our runs as it makes it really dangerous for defenders to defend against good strikers who are really looking for the goal.
“Last Wednesday, he scored and on Saturday I scored and so did Sam Lammers so the coach is giving us a lot of freedom and now we want to show the people that we can do everything.”
Dessers will look to shut down his critics and boost his confidence with an assured showing in the return leg against Servette on Tuesday.
Rangers will advance to the next round of Europe’s premier club competition if they avoid defeat against the Swiss club.
