The former Flying Eagles star has now formally signed with Salernitana despite recent links to AC Milan
Former Flying Eagles star, Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, has embraced his new journey with Italian club US Salernitana, expressing his excitement about joining the team, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian forward officially completed a move to Serie A’s Salernitana from Slovenian side Celje yesterday. This decision was made despite initial reports suggesting interest from Serie A giants AC Milan in the young Nigerian talent.
Having successfully secured a transfer deal estimated at approximately €1.80 million with the Salerno-based club, Ikwuemesi is eager to contribute his best to the Garnets.
Joining the ranks of fellow Nigerians Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Isaac Promise, and more, the 22-year-old is set to ply his trade in Italy for the next four years, with an option for an additional year.
In a special announcement on the club’s social media platform, Ikwuemesi conveyed his joy about becoming a part of the new club and outlined his aspirations for the team.
“I’m very happy and proud to be here. I am happy to be a new Salernitana player. The team’s goal is to stay in Serie A and win games. And I’m here to give my all and help the team achieve their goal,” expressed the freshly signed Salernitana player.

Impressively, the skillful forward left his mark during a loan spell at Slovenian side NK Celje, boasting a noteworthy record of nine goals and five assists in the Slovenian top division.
Salernitana’s debut match in the 2023-24 Serie A season is against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma tomorrow, where Ikwuemesi is expected to make a significant impact for his new team or support his teammates from the sidelines.
