Super Falcons of Nigeria put on an impressive display in what many called the group of death, but came out victorious, with some records alongside.
An impressive outing by the Nigerian Super Falcons has seen the girls break some impressive records as a team, with some individuals going further to set milestones as well, Soccernet.ng reports.
Goalless draws against Canada and The Republic of Ireland, and a wild win against Australia saw the girls finish second in Group B, as they sealed qualification to the next round of the tournament, with fans home and abroad cheering the team on after three solid displays, putting the name of Nigeria on the map.
Starting with the records, The team’s two draws and a win in the group stage saw them go unbeaten in Group B, a feat that had never been achieved by the Super Falcons previously.
Super Eagles captain, Onome Ebi became the first ever African player, male or female to play at six world cups. Ebi is the first African footballer to play in six World Cup tournaments — 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015, 2019 and 2023.
Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, kept two clean sheets in the group stage and conceded just two goals.
This made Dozie the first-ever African goalkeeper to secure two clean sheets at the FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage game. This means she has a better clean sheet rate than Super Eagles legends, Peter Rufai and Vincent Enyeama.
