The free-scoring Nigerian attacker’s name had been making the rounds in the rumour mills
Turkish club Caykur Rizespor have definitively squashed rumors surrounding the signing of Mathias Oyewusi, Soccernet.ng reports.
While the player’s recent standout performance with FK Zalgiris Vilnius had ignited speculation of a potential move to European clubs, including Rizespor, the Turkish club has categorically denied any such plans.
In a statement on their official website, Rizespor dismissed the swirling rumours as “false and unfounded.”
The official statement from Rizespor reads: “It has become necessary to make the following statement on the unrealistic transfer rumors that have been put forward on social media in recent days! The news on social media that ‘our club is interested in the transfer of professional football player Mathias Oyewusi…’ do not reflect the truth. It is announced to the public with our respect.”
Mathias Oyewusi made waves in Lithuania during the previous season, showcasing a series of stellar performances.
The 24-year-old forward managed 15 goals and six assists in a mere 21 Optibet A Lyga games.
Moreover, Oyewusi’s contributions extended to the Conference League arena, where he notched two goals and two assists across six matches, following his initial success of two goals in six games during the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Despite his remarkable achievements, no club has yet stepped up to entice Oyewusi away from FK Zalgiris Vilnius.
Interestingly, the 24-year-old’s contract with the Lithuanian club is set to expire in December 2023, potentially rendering him a free agent in just five months’ time.
