CAF Champions League: Bendel Insurance secure win as Enyimba and Remo-Stars lose on tiny margins

Nigerian teams were involved in continental football this weekend as Bendel Insurance, Enyimba and Remo Stars don CAF Competitions.

The CAF Confederation Cup kicked off on Friday, August 18th, with the CAF Champions League kicking off on the same date as well, Soccernet.ng reports. Bendel Insurance, Remo-Stars, and NPFL Champions, Enyimba were all in action in CAF Competitions last weekend.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Bendel Insurance secured a win over the Algerian side, ASO Chlef at t the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City, Edo state. They won by a lone goal from Imade Osarenkhoe to give them a slight advantage, as they head towards the second leg in Algeria, next week Saturday.

Their goal came in the forty-second minute, when a deep free-kick from the edge of the box was deflected for the striker, Imade Osarenkhoe to tap in just before half-time. The Algerians did protest for a handball, but the referee saw nothing wrong in the build and awarded the goal, and that was enough to make the difference between both sides.

In the CAF Champions League, Enyimba played an entertaining game, blessed with seven goals, in their loss to Libyan side, Al Ahli Benghazi. They played away from home, and took the lead through Chijioke Mbaoma, but Al Ahli equalized just five minutes after, and Enyimba had to come from behind, twice, to draw level with the home side, but in the additional minutes of the ninety, Al Ahli took the lead to gain an advantage over the Nigerian side, as they won the game 4-3 and will be in for a tough game on Sunday, August 27th, for the return leg in Nigeria.

A single goal, again, made all the difference as the Ghanian side, Madeama SC won by a goal over Remo Stars in Ghana, but the Ikenne side have an opportunity to turn the game around next week Sunday at their home ground in Ogun-State.
