Victor Boniface completed a move to Bayer O4 Leverkusen this summer after a season in Belgium with Royale Union Saint-Gilliose.
Nigerian attacker, Victor Boniface, has set a new record in Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in their Bundesliga fixture at Borussia Park on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 22-year-old joined the German club for £20m this summer after an outstanding season in Belgium last campaign, where he notched 22 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
One of his notable performances came against his new employers when he netted a specular volley to earn Royale Union SG a draw in their first-leg Europa League quarterfinal tie at the BayArena.
His performances over the two-legged fixtures drew praise from Xabi Alonso, who urged Leverkusen to go all out for the Nigerian signature this summer.
The former Bodo/Glimt striker has since rewarded the Spanish manager’s faith in him with a brace in his first away league fixture for the club.
Boniface netted in both halves of the game to hand Leverkusen a 3-0 victory over Monchengladbach at the Borussia Park last Saturday.
However, the 22-year-old did not only score his first brace in the Bundesliga but also caused insurmountable problems for Gladbach’s defense.
He fired eleven shots on goal at his opponent’s box, more than any Leverkusen player has ever done before, according to German outlet Kicker.
His spectacular performance in the game has since been hailed by football pundits, his manager, and former Bayer Leverkusen players.
He will aim to maintain his goalscoring run for his new club when they host the newly promoted Darmstadt at home in a league fixture on Saturday.
