Breakthrough in talks as Napoli agree three-year contract extension with Nigerian star

The Scudetto winners are putting their personnel affairs in order ahead of another title race

Napoli and Michael Folorunsho have reached a common understanding in their contract extension discussions, Soccernet.ng reports.

Folorunsho, who joined Napoli from Virtus Francavilla Calcio in 2019, has yet to make an official appearance for the club, spending time on loan at various teams like Bari, Pordenone, and Reggina.

During the last season, the talented midfielder was on loan at Bari for the second time, making a significant impact with 32 appearances in the regular season, playoffs, and Coppa Italia.

His remarkable performance saw him score nine goals and provide four assists, playing a crucial role in helping Bari secure a third-place finish in Serie B, narrowly missing out on promotion to Serie A.

His exceptional display on the field has caught the attention of several Serie A clubs, with Verona and Empoli leading the race for his signature.

However, with his Napoli contract set to expire next summer, the reigning Italian champions are concerned about losing the 25-year-old for free next year.

In a strategic move, Napoli have decided to secure Folorunsho’s future by extending his contract, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb via Calcio Napoli. The new contract will keep the midfielder tied to the Scudetto winners until 2027.

Although the details of the agreement have been settled, Folorunsho is expected to go on loan after signing the extension.

Currently, Verona seem to be the likely destination, as they have already reached a basic agreement with both Napoli and the player.

The negotiation process is anticipated to gain momentum over the weekend, and a final decision is expected early next week.
