There have been rumours that Bruno has signed for Porto, but the president of Boavista has put those talks to rest
Boavista President Vitor Murta has confirmed that Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has not signed for Portuguese giants Porto, Soccernet reports.
The 24-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Boavista from Feirense, and he impressed. Onyemaechi made 33 appearances and registered two goals and one assists for the club.
His brilliance helped Boavista to a 9th-place finish in the Portugal Liga. And after a successful campaign, the club snapped him up for €1million on a two-year deal.
However, there have been talks that Porto are interested in securing his services from Boavista this summer.
According to recent reports from some Portuguese outlets, Onyemaechi has signed a five-year contract with the 30-time Portuguese champions. However, the president of Boavista has confirmed that the Super Eagles defender has not left the club.
“There is no conversation with Porto regarding Onyemaechi,” President Murta said during the club’s anniversary.
“It’s not just Porto that are interested. There are a number of clubs that are interested in the Nigerian.”
Boavista are a selling club, and if Porto send a decent offer for Onyemaechi, they would accept. However, it is unlikely that the Dragons will go out of their way to sign the Nigerian because he has had only one good season in the top flight.
