Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, has offered his thoughts on being likened to football legend Cristiano Ronaldo by Napoli head coach Rudi Garcia, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history and a prolific goal scorer, drew the unexpected comparison earlier this week.
Garcia had highlighted the shared attributes of intensity and zeal exhibited by both Osimhen and Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch.
When asked about Garcia’s comparison, Osimhen responded, “What can I say, it’s important that the coach believes in me, I respond with trust with performance on the pitch.
“We are all important for the team, there are many leaders besides Di Lorenzo, such as Mario Rui, Zielinski, Meret. The important thing is to be a united group.”
In a stellar performance on Saturday night, Osimhen netted a remarkable brace as Napoli launched their defense of the Scudetto crown with a convincing 3-1 away victory against Frosinone.
Despite undergoing a managerial change in the off-season, Napoli displayed their enduring quality, much to Osimhen’s satisfaction.
He commented, “It was important to start well, congratulations to the team but also to Frosinone who played very well. I’m happy to have contributed 2 goals; we must continue like this.”
Amidst rumors during the summer transfer window, particularly linking Osimhen to moves in Arabia, the Nigerian striker addressed his contract situation.
He stated, “There has been a lot of speculation.
“The president is the boss, we are negotiating, I am a Napoli player and I continue to give my heart for my team. Let’s see what happens at the end of the transfer market.”
Napoli, having secured their first Serie A title in 33 years last season, are yet again counting on Osimhen’s continued brilliance as they aim for another successful campaign.
