The 23-year-old joins Karibe Ojigwe and Taribo West as Nigerians to have represented the Red Devils
FC Kaiserslautern have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Afeez Aremu from St. Pauli.
After three years representing the Neighbourhood Kickers, the midfielder teamed up with the Red Devils – whose ambition is to gain promotion to the German topflight.
The club announced his capture via their social media platform, nonetheless, did not reveal the fee involved.
Prior to Aremu’s move to the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, Aremu had penned a touching farewell to St. Pauli.
“FC Pauli, thank you so much for everything. Dear FC.St Pauli fans, thank you all for all the support,” he wrote on Instagram.
In his first interview, he talked about the motivation behind his move to the German second tier outfit.
“It was important for me to take the next development step in my career. 1. FC Kaiserslautern, one of the most traditional clubs, is a top address for this,” Aremu told FC Kaiserslautern website.
“The talks with those responsible were very good, I immediately felt at home here and I hope that I can get some playing time so that I can make the season a success together with the team.”
Managing Director Thomas Hengen expressed his delight having the former Sunshine Stars player in the club’s fold, while raving about his qualities.
“Afeez is a very strong defensive player who has a lot of athleticism and dynamism and therefore fits in very well with the Betzenberg and our game idea,” he told the club website.
“He will revive the competition in midfield again. We are sure that he still has a lot of potential for development, although he was able to gain a lot of experience in professional football at his young age.”
With his move, Aremu joins the likes of Taribo West and Karibe Ojigwe as Nigerians to have represented the four-time league champions.
