Abuja-born goalscoring machine, Tani Oluwaseyi, has earned the prestigious USL Championship Player of the Week, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 23-year-old prodigy not only secured the Player of the Week recognition but also earned a spot on the league’s esteemed Team of the Week.
Oluwaseyi’s awe-inspiring feat occurred on Saturday night when he took the field for San Antonio FC against Hartford.
In an extraordinary performance, he single-handedly dismantled the opposition, netting an astounding four goals in a 5-3 victory.
This outstanding achievement has carved his name indelibly in the club and league’s record books, with his four-goal tally being the most ever scored by a player in a single match for San Antonio FC.
Not stopping there, Oluwaseyi’s incredible skills have granted him three hat tricks in just 12 matches this season.
His overall goal tally for the season has reached an impressive 13, setting a new record for the club’s single-season best and propelling him to the forefront as the leading goal scorer in the USL Championship.
His breathtaking performance against Hartford marks the first instance of a four-goal match in the USL Championship since 2019.
Additionally, Oluwaseyi has earned the distinction of becoming only the second player in the league’s history to achieve three hat tricks in a single season, following in the footsteps of Matt Fondy, who achieved this feat back in 2015.
This recent Player of the Week accolade is Oluwaseyi’s second this season. His first victory in this category came in early July when he wowed fans and critics alike by securing his second hat trick of the season.
This remarkable achievement made him the first player in San Antonio FC’s history to notch multiple hat tricks in a single campaign.
Oluwaseyi is on loan at San Antonio FC from Major League Soccer side Minnesota United.
