The Super Falcons are working hard in training to surpass the country’s best quarterfinal finish achieved in the 1999 edition of the tournament hosted in the USA

Nigeria’s delegation to the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Super Falcons, keeps the fans optimistic about a good outing in the World Cup, as evidenced by their recent training sessions, Soccernet.ng reports.

The West African country will be making its 9th appearance in this year’s edition of the competition, to be co-hosted by Australia and Newzealand.

Nigeria’s best performance in the competition was a quarterfinal finish in the 1999 edition, hosted by the United States Of America.

With just a few days to the start of the tournament, both the players and coaching staff are putting in the hard work and training as the team continues to aim toward a good outing in Australia and New Zealand.

There has been recently a rumour that the team is planning to boycott their first game against Canada as a protest over bonuses and allowances, but this has been denied by the team captain Onome Ebi.

Honestly, I don’t where that is coming from. We have not had such a conversation within ourselves, so we don’t know where that’s coming from. I don’t think I have any comment to make on that. It’s a good feeling, we are ready for the World Cup and prepared, Ebi said.

The 40-year-old also stated that despite the setback the team has been facing recently, the players are united in good spirits

It was intense, it was motivating. It was ok and the players are in good shape, in good spirits, and ready to go.

Ebi also noted that the players have quickly settled down in their new surroundings to start training quickly.

The Super Falcons are in Group B for the upcoming World Cup, alongside co-host, Australia, Olympic champions, Canada, and debutant, the Republic of Ireland.

The tournament starts on the 20th of July, and the Nigerian team will begin their campaign against Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on the 21st of July.
