Waiting for Godot: NFF’s crucial decision on Super Eagles’ coaching future hangs in balance

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently faced with a crucial decision regarding the future of the Super Eagles’ coaching position, as José Peseiro’s contract has expired.

With upcoming events like the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, time is of the essence in making this decision.

The Portuguese boss, who took charge of the Super Eagles in February 2021, has led the team through a challenging period, navigating through the African Cup of Nations qualifiers and securing a place in the tournament.

However, with his contract now expired, the NFF needs to determine whether they will re-appoint Peseiro or search for a new coach to guide the team moving forward.

The NFF has not made any official announcements regarding Peseiro’s future or their plans for the coaching position, except a poll decision in deciding the coach’s future.

But, the stakeholders are likely evaluating Peseiro’s performance, considering factors such as the team’s results and the overall vision for the Super Eagles’ future.

As the clock ticks closer to the next Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers, the NFF faces the challenge of making a timely decision.

But while the country waits for Godot, it is important for the Nigerian football body to know that the appointment of a coach is a critical process that requires careful consideration to ensure the team’s continued progress and success on the international stage.

Meanwhile, whether it would be Peseiro, Finidi George or Emmanuel Amunike, the decision will shape the Super Eagles’ journey in the upcoming tournaments and determine the leadership direction of the team.

The NFF should clarify the situation in the coming weeks, revealing whether Peseiro will be given an extended contract or a new coach will take the reins.

  • NFF IS TOO SLOW IN MAKING QUICK DECISION.
I WONDER WHY THEY ARE STILL WASTING TIME ON THE ISSUE OF COACH PASEIRO WHETHER TO STAY OR NOT.
WORLD CUP QUALIFIER IS DIFFERENT FROM AFCON QUALIFIER. APART FROM BIG TEAMS, THERE ARE BETTER IMPROVED MINORITY TEAM (better than S/Leone, Sao time) IN AFRICA LIKE GAMBIA, COMOROS, TANZANIA, MADAGASCAR, ) WHICH CANNOT BE BEATEN EASILY BY NIGERIA.. UPON BIG PLAYERS NIGERIA SUPER EAGLE HAVE, UNDER PASEIRO, WE ALL KNOW HOW WE SUFFERED AGAINST GUINEA-BISAO, & S/LEONE. AND WORLD CUP QUALIFIER IS AROUND THE CORNER, CAN NIGERIA BEAT COMOROS , GAMBIA UNDER PASEIRO

  • if Comoros beat Gambia and Gambia draw with Madagascar and Madagascar go beat Comoros away den eagle wil used highest goal scored to qualify for u s a and Canada .

  • I think they should appoint George Finidi. NFF should be innovative for once! Bringing all these second rate foreign coaches hasn't helped! George has the potential and besides he has proven his mettle at Eyimba.
