Super Eagles star rejected Anderlecht and Club Brugge

Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru had the opportunity to make a comeback to Belgium but decided to extend his stay in Turkey instead, Soccernet.ng reports.

After an impressive loan spell at Adana Demirspor, the player received offers from renowned Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Club Brugge, both of which he turned down before ultimately signing with Adana Demirspor.

Onyekuru initially gained prominence in Belgium during a remarkable stint with Eupen.

He had previously been loaned to Anderlecht before departing Belgium for Everton in 2018.

Following subsequent stints with Galatasaray, Monaco, and Olympiakos, Onyekuru recently finalized his move to Adana Demirspor in the Turkish first division.

Having been loaned to Adana Demirspor by Olympiakos last season, the 26-year-old, who has made 16 international appearances for Nigeria, secured a permanent transfer for approximately €3.5m. The Super Eagles forward will work with Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert next term.

Onyekuru garnered significant attention from several clubs, and there was speculation about a potential return to the Belgian Pro League.

Adana president Murat Sancak confirmed, as per Walfoot, that they received four to five offers for Onyekuru. Still, the player himself rejected two of them—Anderlecht and Club Brugge.

With eight goals and three assists in 30 games last season, Onyekuru played a vital role in Adana’s achievement of fourth place in the 2022–23 Süper Lig, which also secured their qualification for European competitions for the first time in their history.

Now, the Nigerian striker will look to contribute to the club’s success in the Europa Conference League as they seek to make an impact on the continental stage.
