Super Eagles star on the radar of Brighton not keen on Premier League move

Promising Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey has emphatically dismissed all rumours swirling around his potential move to the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bassey has firmly asserted his commitment to regaining his form with Ajax, expressing his eagerness to excel under the guidance of new head coach Maurice Steijn.

Having dedicated his entire summer to intense training, the 23-year-old has diligently prepared himself for the upcoming season, determined to hit the ground running.

Bassey, who made his debut for Ajax last season after arriving from Glasgow Rangers, endured a rollercoaster ride, encountering both highs and lows.

Although he had the opportunity to feature in the illustrious UEFA Champions League, his contributions couldn’t prevent the Dutch giants from an early exit in the group stage.

Furthermore, his performances faced substantial criticism as Ajax stumbled in the Eredivisie, ultimately relinquishing their league crown to Feyenoord.

Reports have been circulating, linking Bassey to a potential move to the English Premier League, with Brighton purportedly expressing interest in securing his services.

However, the versatile Super Eagles defender remains unswayed, as he is wholeheartedly focused on rectifying matters with Ajax and establishing a positive trajectory.

Returning to De Toekomst training complex after his holiday, Bassey was immediately approached by Ajax TV for a quick interview, as per FcUpdate

With a smile on his face, he expressed his delight at being back and eagerly anticipating the forthcoming season. Bassey, carrying a hefty price tag of 23 million euros, is keen to make amends after a volatile debut campaign.

During his vacation, Bassey displayed an unwavering commitment to maintaining his physical condition, diligently adhering to a rigorous training regime.

“I trained all summer,” affirmed the left-footed defender.

“My intention was to return in peak condition. With a new coach at the helm, I’m determined to kick off on a positive note and hopefully make a significant impact. I’ve put in the hard work, and I’m confident it will pay off.”

In addition to Bassey, the Ajax training complex has witnessed the return of Gerónimo Rulli, Mohammed Kudus, Steven Bergwijn, and several others. Edson Álvarez, Jorge Sánchez, Dusan Tadic, and Francisco Conceiçao are expected to join the squad later, further augmenting the team’s arsenal ahead of the challenging season.
