Sadiq Umar gets new number at Real Sociedad

Umar spent most of last season on the sidelines because of an injury, but he would be hoping to play a vital role for txuri-urdin next season

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has gotten the number 19 jersey at Real Sociedad following the departure of Alexander Sorloth to Villarreal, Soccernet reports.

Umar joined Spanish Laliga side Real Sociedad from Almeria for a club-record €20million fee last summer. The 26-year-old striker hit the ground running, scoring on his debut. However, he sustained a nasty knee injury in his third game for the club against Getafe.

The injury kept him out of action for the rest of the season, and he just returned to full action this summer.

Umar played his first game in over ten months in Real Sociedad’s 3-0 loss to Sporting CP. He got just 45 minutes of action before he was taken off at halftime.

In that game, he did not wear the number 25 jersey that he wore last season. Instead, he was donning the number 19 jersey.

The last player to wear the number 19 jersey was Sorloth, and the Norway international just sealed a move to Villarreal earlier this week.

Coach Imanol Alguacil would hope that Umar gets back to his best soon because it will be a very busy season for Real Sociedad, especially as they play Champions League football.
