Record-making Nigerian star scores versus Monaco to remind Frankfurt, Union Berlin of his worth

Talented forward Victor Boniface is making a remarkable comeback as he showcased his exceptional skills in Union Saint-Gilloise’s second preseason match against Monaco.

The clash between French side AS Monaco and Union Saint-Gilloise on Sunday afternoon proved to be an intense friendly encounter, culminating in a 1-1 draw.

Union Saint-Gilloise, having thrashed lower league side Nijlen with an impressive 9-0 victory a few days ago, entered the match against Monaco in high spirits.

And just before halftime, Boniface seized the opportunity and gave the Brussels-based team the lead. However, Gelson Martins of Monaco struck back for Monaco midway through the second half, securing the draw.

The game against Monaco marked the debut of Union’s new coach, Alexander Blessin, formerly associated with KV Oostende.

Blessin took over from Karel Geraerts as their collaboration ended due to failed contract negotiations.

Looking ahead, Union Saint-Gilloise have two upcoming exhibition matches. On Wednesday at 6:30 pm, they will face second division team RFC Liège in Overijse.

Then, on Saturday at 2:00 pm, a confrontation with Dutch champions Feyenoord awaits them in Rotterdam.

The Unionists’ highly anticipated competitive season will commence on Friday evening, July 28, at 8:45 pm, with a derby against RSC Anderlecht at their home ground, Dudenpark.

Last season, Boniface’s exceptional performance played a pivotal role in Union SG finishing second in the Jupiler Pro League and reaching the Europa League quarterfinals.

He scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions, including six crucial goals in the Europa League, making him the competition’s top scorer and the first Nigerian to achieve this feat.

Such impressive accomplishments sparked interest from various clubs, including Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt, and AC Milan.

However, the transfer market has yet to witness any significant movement for Boniface, and he has returned to action for the new season with Union SG, determined to continue his remarkable journey.
