With a statement on their official website, FC Vaduz have confirmed the departure of Franklin Sasere from their team, Soccernet.ng reports.
Sasere has opted to make an immediate move to Ujpest FC in Budapest, joining the top Hungarian league.
The Nigerian forward’s decision comes shortly after he extended his contract with FC Vaduz for two more years. However, the specific details of the transfer agreement have been kept under wraps.
Having joined FC Vaduz last summer, Sasere featured in 48 competitive games for the club, netting ten goals and providing six assists.
To make the move possible, Sasere approached FC Vaduz, expressing his desire to move to Hungary, citing family reasons as the primary motivation behind his decision.
Although the club had him firmly in their season plans, they understood the importance of addressing his wishes. As a result, they managed to find a solution and accommodate his transfer request.
FC Vaduz’s sports director, Franz Burgmeier, expressed his well-wishes to Sasere on his departure, stating, “We wish Franklin all the best and much success in Budapest for the future.” The team also responded promptly to the striker’s exit by securing Seifedin Chabbi to fill the gap in their attack.
Sasere’s new journey sees him joining Ujpest, a club with an impressive record, having claimed the Hungarian league title a remarkable 20 times. At Ujpest, he will be reunited with fellow Nigerian players Vincent Onovo and Peter Ambrose.
The Nigerian forward’s professional career kicked off at Ifeanyi Ubah in the Nigerian Professional Football League, where he honed his skills and proved his goal-scoring prowess.
Subsequently, he spent two years showcasing his talent at Sunshine Stars before moving to Lugano in September 2019, where he signed a three-year contract with the Swiss Super League club.
Later on, Sasere had a brief stint of two years with Malta’s Ħamrun Spartans before landing at FC Vaduz last year.
