FIFA WWC: Super Falcons get big boost as Chelsea’s Balon D’Or nominee gets ruled out of Australia clash

The Super Falcons have a tough game against Australia next Thursday, but the Australians will be without their best player

Chelsea goal machine Sam Kerr will be unavailable for Australia when they lock horns with the Super Falcons of Nigeria next Thursday, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria picked a point from their opening 2023 World Cup fixture against Canada on Thursday. The Super Falcons were underdogs going into the tie, but they put up a solid display to grind out a 0-0 result.

Nigeria have another stern test next Thursday as they will play Australia in their second group game at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The Australian are one of the best teams in female football as they sit 10th in the FIFA world rankings, 30 places above Nigeria.

However, they will not be at full power as Talksports reports that 2022 Balon D’Or runner-up Sam Kerr has been ruled out of the game because of a calf injury.

Her absence will create a huge void in Australia’s attack, as she is arguably their best player. Nonetheless, the Matilda are still formidable as they proved their ability in their opening day 1-0 win against Ireland. They registered 13 shots on goal and bossed the play.
