2023 FIFA WWC: Super Falcons’ opponent reveal final squad, include player who is better than Ronaldo

Nigeria and Canada will be facing each other for the third in the group stage of the Women’s World Cup when both women’s football powerhouses lock horns in Australia and New Zealand 

The Super Falcon’s first opponent in the upcoming 2023 World Cup, Canada, have revealed their final squad for the competition, which includes a 40-year-old player , Christine Sinclair, who holds the record for the highest number of goals in international football, Soccernet. ng reports.

The 23-man squad was revealed by team coach Bev Priestman on Sunday and it includes 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 5 midfielders, and 8 forwards.

Nigeria and Canada are in Group B of the tournament and are set to face each other in their first game on the 21st of July at the Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne.

The two countries have been together in the group stage before in two past editions, making the 2023 edition the third time the two Women’s football powerhouses are facing off on the global stage.

In total, 18 of the 22 players from the side that won the Olympics gold medal are on the team, which also includes a 40-year-old striker who holds the record for the highest number of goals with 190 in international football.

 

Christine Sinclair is currently the all-time leading goalscorer in international football, with 67 goals more than Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo’s 123.

The first game between the two countries will be crucial for both sides as only the top two teams in the group are guaranteed progression to the knockout stage.

From the recent latest ranking released, Canada is ranked seventh in the world, while Nigeria is ranked 40th. Australia and the Republic of Ireland are the other countries in their group.
