2023 FIFA WWC: Spanish-based defender believes Super Falcons can surpass expectations at World Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria recently held the Olympic Champions, Canada, to a goalless draw in their opening Group B tie

Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale believes her team is capable of competing with the best teams in the ongoing Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Soccernet.ng reports

The African side recently held Canada to a goalless draw in their first game of the tournament.

Canada, who claimed the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, had an opportunity to win the game with a penalty, but the team’s captain, Christine Sinclair, missed the spot kick after a fabulous save from Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Despite Bev Priestman’s team dominating a larger part of the contest, Ohale, who dons the jersey of Deportivo Alaves, still believes the Falcons are competent to compete with other teams of Canada’s caliber, and the team will take the draw against the CONCACAF nation as a confidence booster ahead of next games in the competition

We can go all the way, this is a football game, and you can not write yourself or the team out. We are here to play football, we are here to compete just like the other teams, and we would take one game at a time

Randy Waldrum’s Falcons will aim to better Nigeria’s best last-eight performance in the history of the competition.

The nine-time African champions will face Australia in their next game on Thursday, July 27 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
