2023 FIFA WWC: Captain Ebi remains confident in Super Falcons’ readiness to face any opponent in Australia and New Zealand

The Super Falcons are among the newly expanded 32 teams format in this year’s edition of the tournament

Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi has revealed that the Nigerian team led by Randy Wandrum is ready for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Soccernet.ng reports

The highly anticipated event will commence in three days, with co-host New Zealand taking on Norway in the opening match.

Nigeria’s Falcons have been drawn into Group B along with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Randy Waldrum’s side has been gearing up for the challenges in front of them by recently thrashing Australian club Queensland Lions FC 8-1 in Gold Coast on Saturday morning.

Barcelona feminine star, Asisat Oshoala scored a brace, while the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade, Monday Gift, Ifeoma Onumonu, Uchenna Kanu, and Tony Payne were also on target.

They arrived at their base camp in Brisbane on Sunday morning, where FIFA officials received them.

As Nigeria set for their first game of the tournament against Canada on Friday, Ebi took to Twitter to declare the Falcons’ readiness for the upcoming showpiece.

“Ready for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Let’s go on this journey together” she wrote.

Nigeria’s best achievement in the tournament was the quarterfinal stage of the 1999 edition in the USA.

They will face Australia four days after they clash with Canada and the Republic of Ireland on the 31st of July. Only the top two teams in the group are guaranteed to progress to the knockout stage.
