2023 FIFA WWC: Ajibade remains confident in Super Falcons securing victory against Australia

The Super Falcons will play their second game in the ongoing Women’s World Cup against Australia at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane

Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade says the team will be targeting maximum points in their next assignments in the World Cup, starting first with their match against Australia on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports

On Friday, the African side demonstrated courage to earn a point against Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

Canada dominated most of the contest but failed to create clear chances against the impressive Super Falcons’ defense.

The CONCACAF giants had an opportunity to win their first game in the tournament with a penalty, but the team’s captain, Christine Sinclair, missed the spot kick after a fantastic save from Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The African giants will now shift their attention toward their next games, starting with a date against the tournament’s co-host, Australia, on Thursday.

Ajibade, who missed the Falcons’ first match due to a suspension, is confident the Nigerian team can claim the maximum points in their next games at the showpiece.

“Well done by the team to earn a point in the tough match against Canada yesterday. We remain focused on the matches ahead and will be fighting for maximum points in the subsequent matches.” she wrote.

The Super Falcons are leveled with Canada by one point following the goalless draw between the two countries. At the same time, Australia occupies first after claiming maximum points against the Republic of Ireland in the Group B game.

Randy Waldrum’s side will play Australia next at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Thursday, and their final group match is against the Republic of Ireland four days later also at the same venue.
