Ademola lookman established himself in the Italian Serie A this season with an impressive performance, scoring 13 goals, and contributing 8 assists
Atalanta BC forward, Ademola Lookman, has reacted after failing to meet up with Victor Osimhen’s goal challenge, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former RB Leipzig attacker had previously stated that he would finish the Serie A season with more goals than his countryman, but things did not go as planned for the 25-year-old.
Lookman told soccernet.ng that trailing behind the Napoli attacker, who eventually scored 26 goals for the club, is something you experience in football.
The forward had emerged as a strong contender to match the goalscoring consistency of Osimhen, as he showcased his prowess by finding the back of the net 13 times, keeping pace with Osimhen’s impressive goal tally during the post-World Cup matchups.
However, Osimhen did not shy away from a challenge. The talented Nigerian striker responded to Lookman’s claim by delivering a phenomenal performance, tallying an astonishing 26 goals in the league.
His remarkable feat not only solidified his position as one of the league’s top scorers but also earned him the prestigious title of the best striker in Serie A.
However, as the 2022-23 Serie A season went on, Lookman slipped behind his challenge due to injury, which kept him out of Gian Piero Gasperini’s starting lineup.
Meanwhile, Lookman, reflecting on his season, acknowledged the ups and downs but remained determined to bounce back stronger.
Speaking to Soccernet.ng, he expressed, “It is just one of those things. Next season and the upper season, I’d come back stronger from the downs. This season has not been a good season for me, but I just need to keep improving.”
