Super Eagles prolific forward Victor Osimhen has reportedly advised Napoli against pursuing his former coach at LOSC Lille, Christophe Galtier, who is on the verge of being dismissed by Paris Saint-Germain, Soccernet.ng reports.
Napoli need a new tactician following the departure of Luciano Spalletti, who led the Italian club to their first Scudetto triumph in 33 years.
Galtier, who will become a free agent this summer when he parts ways with PSG, appeared to be a strong contender for the role.
However, according to sources from France, Footmercato (via Tutto Napoli), Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis sought the opinion of Osimhen regarding Galtier, given their previous working relationship at Lille.
Strikingly, Osimhen’s feedback on the French coach was far from positive.
Osimhen, who joined Lille from Riyal Charleroi for €22.40 million, enjoyed a fruitful season under Galtier’s guidance during the 2019-20 season.
The 24-year-old striker scored an impressive 18 goals and provided six assists in 38 games across various competitions. This outstanding performance earned him a record-breaking transfer move to Napoli, making him the most expensive African player at the time.
With Osimhen’s reservations about Galtier, it is now anticipated that Napoli will explore other options for their coaching position.
One name that has emerged as a potential favorite is Paulo Sousa, the current manager of Salernitana.
Osimhen himself could be on the way out of Napoli this summer. After winning the Scudetto and a historic Serie A topscorer award, the former Wolfsburg ace is on the radar of half of Europe’s wealthiest clubs.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are some of the clubs linked with a move for Osimhen this summer.
