Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Sierra Leone on Sunday, June 18 at Monrovia, Liberia
Sierra Leone head coach John Keister has named Middlesbrough FC youngster Kamil Conteh ahead of their match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng understands.
Jose Peseiro’s boys will tackle their West African neighbours at the SKD Stadium, and Kamil, as announced by the English club, is also expected to feature for Keister’s men.
The 38-man provisional squad, which includes Conteh, was unveiled by the Sierra Leone Football Association through its Twitter feed ahead of their Group A qualifying match against Nigeria.
Although the Super Eagles coach is yet to release his squad list, the match-day five encounter, which is set to take place in Monrovia, Liberia, owing to Sierra Leone’s failure to offer a proper stadium, will include 12 foreign-based players as of the time of writing this story.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 in their first encounter with the Leonean teams in the June 2022 qualifiers in Abuja.
Keister’s troops will be seeking to shock and derail the Super Eagles’ prospects of qualifying for the 2023 AFCON tournament as they prepare to clash in less than 10 days.
The Super Eagles lead Group A with nine points after four games, due to a 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau in their most recent match, while Sierra Leone sits third with five points.
The group’s top two teams, meanwhile, would earn spots in Côte d’Ivoire for the AFCON the following year.
