New hope for Onuachu? German Bundesliga side lead race to sign Southampton forward

The Nigerian forward moved to join the English side in the January transfer window, but his effort was not enough to safeguard their spot in the English Premier League campaign for next season.

German Bundesliga side, Borussia Mönchengladbach are leading the race to sign Super Eagles attacker Paul Onuachu, soccernet.ng reports.

After the expiration of the contract of their pivotal forward, Marcus Thuram, Die Fohlen are set to dive into the market to get a new forward to rival Allasane Pléa for competition in the squad and also to get ready the replacement for the ageing club veteran, Lars Stindl, and have identified Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu as the striker to fill the void.

The 29-year-old forward, who has also garnered interest from other Bundesliga sides like Union Berlin and VfB Stuttgart, is also keen on a move as he does not want to be in a relegation battle with Southampton after what
he went through in the past season.

The two-metre tall striker scored eighty-five goals in a hundred and thirty-four goals for Genk in the Belgian Pro League between 2019 and 2023 before making a switch that looked like his big break to Southampton, but the transfer didn’t turn out to be what the striker or the club thought it would be as there was no redemption arc for Southampton, and Onuachu scored no goals in eleven appearances for the relegated side, starting just five of those games.

With Marcus Thuram set to sign for Milan, Onuachu will be a central figure for The Foals in attack, and his aerial advantage will be a boost to help exploit the defence of other Bundesliga teams.
