Osimhen has been producing goals consistently, and he looks set for greater exploits
Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has stated that he wants Napoli star Victor Osimhen to score more goals and break more records, Soccernet reports.
Osimhen has been superb for club and country. The Nigerian striker was the best in Serie A last season, scoring 26 goals to help the Partenopeans to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
He also scored five goals in the run-up to their quarterfinal finish in the UEFA Champions League, which was the best in their history.
Osimhen also became the sixth-joint-highest goalscorer in Nigeria’s history after scoring a brace in their 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last week. By doing so, he surpassed Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa.
Ighalo had a decent career with the Super Eagles. he won the AFCON Golden Boot and also a bronze medal. Osimhen already has a bronze medal in his kitty, but he is yet to win the AFCON Golden Shoe.
However, Ighalo is convinced that the PSG target can do way better than him because of his talent.
“Every morning I wake up, I pray that my son will be greater than me,” Ighalo told Elegbete TV.
“Osimhen is like a junior brother to me, so I always wish him the best. He has passed my tally, but I’m not bothered- I want him to even do more.
“He is still young at 24, but he has achieved a lot so far. He won the highest goalscorer in Serie A and helped Napoli to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
“I just want him to continue with what he’s doing, and stay humble. Hopefully, one big team will come and pick him.”
Meanwhile, Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Naples, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG all in the mix. But Ighalo insists that he would like Osimhen to play for the Red Devils.
“I’m a Manchester United fan till death. I want him to go to Manchester United because he is a hungry player, and that is what the club needs,” Ighalo added.
“He is a fighter, he chases and bullies defenders and he is good in the air. And he is also young.
“He has his agent and he is also mature now, but I’d advise him to go to Manchester United because the cl8b needs him.
“Osimhen will succeed in England and the club will get the best out of him. I believe Manchester United will suit him.”
