Former Golden Eaglets boss Amunike who scouted Osimhen highlights his ‘major strength’

Victor Osimhen’s growth, coupled with the understanding and support of his teammates, has played a vital role in his continued success on the football pitch

Former Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amunike, recently shared insights into the playing style and major strength of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian star, who was significant under the tutelage of Amunike in the Nigerian U-17 squad, has turned out to be the Serie A best striker in the 2022-23 season after scoring 26 goals.

The 52-year-old, who played a crucial role in scouting Osimhen during his time with the Golden Eaglets, revealed the forward’s unique quality that sets him apart on the field.

Amunike’s comments on LovingFootball Show on Radio Now 95.3fm Lagos, shed light on the importance of understanding Osimhen’s playing style and the need to provide him with accurate and well-timed deliveries.

“Osimhen is the kind of player that moves a lot into spaces, and that is one of his qualities apart from his technicality and ability that he has with the ball,” Amunike explained.

The young striker’s knack for finding open spaces and exploiting them has proven to be a significant asset to his game.

Amunike further emphasized Osimhen’s major strength, stating, “But his major strength is moving into spaces, and you need to ask, who are those kind of players who can deliver those kinds of balls to Osimhen in spaces. So as a coach, you should know how to find a balance in your team.”

Osimhen’s ability to constantly create opportunities for himself by intelligently positioning himself in open spaces has been a key factor in his success.

As the Super Eagles of Nigeria tackles Sierra Leone in the match-day five encounter of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Napoli star will be expected to deliver his usual best in the squad.
