AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Super Eagles camp bubbles as Lookman, Iwobi, five others hit camp ahead of Sierra Leone battle

The Super Eagles take on Sierra Leone on the 18th of June, and some players have started arriving in camp

Seven players have hit the Super Eagles camp in Lagos ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers clash against Sierra Leone, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles camp in Lagos officially opened on Sunday, the 11th of June. Coach Jose Peseiro invited 23 players for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.

In the latest release by their Twitter handle, William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Kevin Akpoguma have all hit camp.

The players have seven days before the fixture against Sierra Leone, so it is expected that the deadline for arrival for the remaining 16 players would be on the 13th.

Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi is already in the country, and Ahmed Musa is also back in Nigeria. Both players would eventually join up with the team.

The Super Eagles play Sierra Leone at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia. The reverse fixture in Nigeria ended 2-1 in Nigeria’s favour. A win for them would seal their place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire next year.

  • It is ironic for Jose Peseiro to invite Joe Aribo who has not played a game for Southampton this ended season. In fact he is match rusty and also Troost Ekong who is relegated to second tier with watford and also Ahmed Musa who has paid his dues.Again, why leave out Gift Orban one of Nigerias best players scoring in every match as well as Chuba Akpom.I hope this man is not allowed to continue as Eagles coach ,because his body language shows he wants to scuttle this nations cup campaign.Does he really watch players and access their performances before invitations, or are positions influenced by NFF hirachy.Let it be known that we are been monitored and a very good manager from the opponent camp would always capitalize on our wrong invitations to punish us. I hope the old and war out players perform as well match rusty Aribo.Okayooo, the end result justifies the means.
