Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, congratulates the Golden Eaglets on their triumph against South Africa at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations competition, soccernet.ng reports.
Nduka Ugbade’s team defeated the Amajimbos in a thrilling 3-2 tie on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON in Constantine after losing to Morocco by a score of 2-nil.
FFollowing the under-17 team’s tenacious pursuit of an available automatic qualifying spot, the Napoli striker used his social media platform to commend the Nigerian starlet for their enthusiasm.
Mkhawana Vicky scored the game’s first goal for the South Africans in the sixth minute of play, and after Charles Agada had tied the score in the 34th, Mabena Siyabonga gave the Southern Africans the lead once again with a cool finish.
Light Eke evened the score for Nigeria in the second half before Abubakar Abdullahi slotted them the lead in the 64th minute with a beautiful cross from Emmanuel Michael.
The Golden Eaglets came in second place in Group B with the win, and the former under-17 star congratulated them.
“Naija spirit, congratulations to the Golden Eaglets,” he wrote.
Recall that Osimhen rose to fame after a remarkable performance for the Under-17 squad, when he scored the game’s lone goal in the team’s AFCON third-place loss to Guinea and netted 10 goals in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Like other Nigerian football fans, the former LOSC Lille striker is rooting for Ugbade’s team to win the AFCON tournament.
