Unstoppable! Awoniyi strikes again to help Nottingham compound Arsenal’s misery

Awoniyi has been in rich form recently, and he continues with his run against Arsenal

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the match-winner for Nottingham Forest as they claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the City Ground, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi has been superb in recent weeks. He scored four goals in his previous two appearances for Nottingham Forest to help them beat Southampton and claim a point at Chelsea.

However, the Tricky Trees had the tough task of playing title hopefuls Arsenal, in a game that held a lot of importance. A victory for Nottingham Forest would stamp their place in the Premier League for next season, and it would automatically ensure that Manchester City claim the title.

Arsenal started the game well, knocking the ball around and dominating possession. However, things fell apart for them in the 19th minute. Odegaard’s pass was intercepted in midfield by Morgan Gibbs-White.

Then the Englishman quickly sprinted forward, and he had Awoniyi flanking him for support. Gibbs-White then spread the ball to Awoniyi, who sent a low drive past Ramsdale in Arsenal’s goal.

The Gunners pushed hard for an equalizer, but Nottingham Forest proved stubborn, stifling their penetration in the final third.

In the end, Awoniyi’s strike proved to be the vital decider for Nottingham Forest, as they claimed a 1-0 win that sealed their place in the top flight for next season.

The Tricky Trees have 37 points and the 18th-placed team has 31 points with two games left.

Also, Nottingham Forest’s win ensured that Manchester City retained the Premier League titles as Arsenal are now four points behind, with just one game to play.
