Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong makes more money for Watford

William Troost-Ekong joined Salernitana on loan from Watford and has made seven Serie A appearances since then

Nigerian star, William Troost-Ekong earned more money for Watford FC while on loan to Unione Sportiva Salernitana 1919, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to reports, the Nigerian defender raked in €400,000 for the Hornets as Salernitana drew 2-2 with AS Roma on Monday at the Stadio Olimpico to win a point and maintain 9 points above the drop zone.

In January, Troost-Ekong moved from England to Italy on loan, with the EFL Championship team receiving a payment of €500,000 as a loan fee.

A clause in the Nigerian player’s contract specifies that Watford would get €400,000 more if the former Udinese Calcio star helps them escape relegation. Meanwhile, the Nigerian player joined the Salernitana when they were directly above the relegation zone.

The Arechi team has been able to secure their continued participation in Serie A owing to their position in 15th place in the rankings with 39 points and two games remaining.

The Italian club has the option to buy Troost-Ekong for an estimated cost of €2 million. The Nigerian international will return to Vicarage Road if Salernitana fails to employ that chance within the allotted time.

The defender has made three starts during the loan period so far, as well as four substitute appearances; nonetheless, Paulo Sousa may not find these performances persuasive enough to keep him on board in Salerno.
