Osimhen has written his name in the sands of time, but he could add one more feather to his cap
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen helped Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years with his second-half strike against Udinese in their 1-1 draw on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old goal poacher got his 22nd strike of the season. And that goal was a significant one for him, as it made him the highest-scoring African in a Serie A season, eclipsing Samuel Eto’o’s record.
Also, Osimhen equaled George Weah’s record of 46 goals to become the joint highest-scoring African in the Serie A.
But with the Serie A already in the bag, Osimhen has to focus on landing the Capocannoniere. He has 22 goals this season, but he has to watch his back, as Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez is hotly on his heels with 19 goals.
The Nigerian striker has only one goal in his last three games, but Martinez has been in hot form lately, scoring five goals in his last four games.
Osimhen has refused to take penalties this season. Perhaps, he should decide to review his decision now. The Partenopeans have some good fixtures coming up. They play Sampdoria, Inter Milan, Bologna, Monza, and Fiorentina. Osimhen would look to take advantage of the remaining fixtures and increase his tally.
Osimhen has achieved a lot this season, and the Serie A is just the biggest of his achievements, but adding the Capocannoniere to his kitty would be superb. He would become the first African to ever win the award.
