Oshoala sustains injury as Barcelona lose first league game in two years

Oshoala was taken off midway into the game, and it all went downhill for Barcelona after that

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala had to be subbed off in the 21st minute of Barcelona Femeni’s 2-1 loss to CF Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.

Barcelona have been invincible in the Spanish top flight in the last two seasons. They won the league last season winning all their games. And this season, they have drawn just one fixture. But they had not lost a game since June 2021.

However, their run was halted on Sunday. Oshoala led the line for the Champions when they traveled to the Estadio Fernando Torres to play CF Madrid.

Unfortunately for Oshoala, she had to be taken off in the  21st minute after she sustained an injury. Barely nine minutes later, Racheal Kundananji opened the deadlock for CF Madrid.

Then in the 37th minute, she doubled their lead. Barcelona fought hard to score, but they had to wait till the 64th minute when Alexia Putellas pulled one back. But that was all they could get as it ended 2-1 to CF Madrid.

From Oshoala’s body language, the injury looked like a hamstring. But with the season already over, she would have to focus on regaining full fitness before the Champions League final in two weeks.
