The 20-year-old forward is showing no signs of slowing down as he was on target for the Buffalos
Gift Orban’s remarkable level of consistency at the top level of European football continued after he notched his 20th goal of the season for Gent against Cercle Brugge on Saturday.
In the four-goal thriller at the Ghelamco Arena, the Nigerian restored parity for the Buffalos after Togo international Kevin Denkey put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes.
Set up by Andrew Hjulsager four minutes into the second half, Orban put the ball beyond Radosław Majecki.
It means the 20-year-old has now scored at least 20 goals in all competitions and six in his last four league outings.
This stat is a huge level of durability from the Nigerian, who shows no signs of slowing down.
His impressive start to life at Gent means he is likely destined for a big move next season as well as a strong contender for Caf’s Young Player of the Year award.
With this result, Gent have now secured European football next season on the fourth match day of the Europe Play-offs.
English Premier League sides Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the former Stabaek striker but would, according to the Evening Standard, nevertheless, the Belgians only sell were they to receive a sizeable fee.
The player is reported to be happy to continue his development at Gent but he is not ruling out a move to the English topflight.
“Playing in a big league,” Orban Het Laatste Nieuws per Sports Witness.
“At a club where I feel comfortable and where I play. The Premier League is my ultimate dream. Manchester United, Liverpool or Manchester City.
“I don’t really like Arsenal that much – it’s like they don’t want to win titles. They play and sell players – that’s it.
“I want to go somewhere where they win prizes. At Real Madrid they don’t have time for tiki-taka, there they just grab titles.”
