Empoli’s in-form full-back could be handed a recall as AFCON Qualifiers draw closer

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to face Sierra Leone in June and São Tomé and Príncipe in September

Empoli full-back, Tyronne Ebuehi has been recalled to the Super Eagles squad to take part in the AFCON qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

With the AFCON qualifiers resuming shortly, the announcement of the squad that will be representing the Super Eagles is highly anticipated, and the players set to be invited have been contacted by Coach Jose Peseiro, according to reports.

Soccernet.ng reports that Tyronne Ebuehi is part of the players that have been handed a recall to the squad. The full-back who plies his trade with Serie A side Empoli will be in the squad for the first time after the Super Eagles lost to Portugal in November 2022, just before the world cup.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for Empoli in recent times, racking up two assists from right-back in the last two games for the Italian side, and looks set to start at right-back for Nigeria as Bright-Osayi Samuel, who has nailed the right-back sport in recent games for Nigeria, is reportedly injured and is in a race against time to get back to full fitness.

Ebuehi will be hoping to replicate his form for the Super Eagles, as his last appearance came in Nigeria’s win over Guinea-Bissau. Nigeria will face Sierra Leone on the 20th of June 2023 to continue in their pursuit of qualification for the AFCON Championships.
