Victor Boniface presently tops the Europa League top scorers table with 6 goals
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Siebe Van der Heyden, has provided an explanation for why Victor Boniface is difficult for defenders from major European leagues to tackle.
The Belgian defender claims that Boniface, who is now topping the UEFA Europa League scoring list, causes defenders to second-guess their next play on the field.
The Nigerian ace has been on fire for Union SG this season, tallying 20 goals in his 47 appearances for the squad thus far.
He has been dubbed “Mister Europe” in the meanwhile due to his impressive performance in European tournaments, where he scored 6 goals, making him the Europa League’s leading scorer.
The 24-year-old then added that his physique presents challenges for defenders, making him a menace to the defence of his opponents.
“As a defender, Boni constantly makes you doubt. If you cover him briefly, he puts his body and turns away easily. But give him space and you are also seen as a defender. The emphasis is often on his physique, but he is also technically a crane. With left or right, it makes little difference to him,” he said, as quoted by Voetbalnieuws.
When they host Bayer Leverkusen at Lotto Park, the Nigerian is anticipated to play a big part in his team’s attempt to progress to the Europa League semifinals.
