Watch: ‘He looks like me’- Arsenal star shares thoughts on Kanu Nwankwo

Kanu is still a beloved figure at Arsenal, and fans always cheer him on when he appears at the Emirates Stadium

Ghanaian star, Thomas Partey, spoke about legendary Nigerian player, Nwankwo Kanu, who played for Arsenal before him, Soccernet.ng understands.

The Arsenal midfielder much admires the Super Eagles star, and he stated that several have commented on their resemblance.

It would be difficult to discuss Kanu’s career without mentioning his fantastic spell with the North London side. The former professional striker for Nigeria was swift and skilful while in possession.

Kanu joined the Gunners after only twelve league appearances and one goal for Inter. At Arsenal, his career rapidly took off.

In the next round of the cup against Derby County, he scored his first goal for the squad, scoring the game’s lone goal off the bench. Since then, he has contributed to club history, helping the team win both the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Partey, a fellow African, had nothing but affection for his predecessor and said that, at his time, he was a fantastic player.

“For Nwankwo Kanu, people say he looks like me. I think we played a charity game in Ghana, and he was throwing the ball over me, but I was quicker, he was old then,” he said.

The 29-year-old added: “When he was in his prime, I was young and I can’t say I saw a lot of him but he was a great player.”

Partey, who moved to Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, has been a key player for the club and has scored some significant goals for them as well.
