Liverpool would be looking to add some quality to their squad in the summer, and one Nigerian star has caught their attention
Former English Premier champions Liverpool are interested in signing Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze Soccernet.ng reports.
In recent years, Nigerian forward Chukwueze has shown signs of brilliance. However, he failed to show his ability consistently for Villarreal. But this season, Chukwueze has flourished under the tutelage of former Barcelona coach Quique Setien.
The 23-year-old attacker has registered 13 goals and eleven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions this season.
However, he raised eyebrows after his masterclass three weeks ago when he scored twice against Real Madrid to help Villarreal beat them 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Chukwueze’s performance has turned heads, with strong talks linking him with a move to the Spanish capital.
However, Real Madrid are not the only ones interested in his services. According to four four two, Liverpool also have eyes on him and could try to price him away from the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Former Reds defender Alberto Moreno is a big fan of Chukwueze. And he believes Chukwueze plays like former Liverpool star Sadio Mane.
“He’s super incisive, fast; you never know where he’s going to go,” Moreno told Marca per four four two.
“He’s strong too, young, and defined. He’s a lot like Sadio Mane. I’ve seen the two in training and they’re very similar.
“He has a lot to learn because he’s very young, but he’ll become an even better player than he is [now].”
Liverpool has lost some bite in the final third since Mane left the club for Bayern Munich last summer. Chukwueze could be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side, but Villarreal may not want to let him go for cheap.
