Premier League: Awoniyi stars for Nottingham in big win against Brighton; Onyeka helps Brentford dismantle Chelsea

Some Super Eagles stars were in action for their clubs on Wednesday, and they helped their sides claim big victories

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi got an assist for Nottingham Forest in their 3-1 victory over Brighton on Wednesday Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi led the line for Forest when they welcomed Brighton who were hurting from their loss to Manchester United in the semifinals of the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Tricky Trees lost their last game to Liverpool, and they were looking to get back to winning ways at City Ground.

Nottingham Forest started the game well, and they won a penalty early in the game after Neco William was brought down in the box. Unfortunately, Brennan Johnson could not take advantage, as he missed the spot kick.

Forest were eventually punished, as Buonanotte scored in the 37th minute to put Brighton ahead. Awoniyi was everywhere on the night, his work rate was superb, putting pressure on defenders and dropping deep.

The Tricky Trees eventually got back into the tie, as Pascal Gross deflected a cross into his own net to make it 1-1 just before the break.

Nottingham Forest started the second half very well, and they eventually got into the lead midway into the second period. Forest won the ball upfield, and Awoniyi showed great awareness to spray the pass to Danilo who finished with aplomb.

Awoniyi had a great performance. He registered 28 touches, one shot on target, and another wayward one before he was taken off in the 81st minute.

Morgan Gibbs-White completed the scoring with a beautiful finish in stoppage time to ensure that Nottingham Forest ran out with the 3-1 win.

Forest now sits in 17th position in the league, one point above the relegation spots.

Meanwhile, at Stamford Bridge, Frank Onyeka helped his Brentford side claim a 2-0 win against Chelsea. An own goal by Cesar Azpilicueta put Brentford in front in the 37th minute.

Then, Bryan Mbeumo scored the second for Brentford to ensure they ran out with the 2-0 win. Onyeka saw 62 minutes of action, he registered 21 touches and two clearances.
